Transformer Services

Testing of transformers include several tasks and related equipment.  The following are a few of the procedures performed both in acceptance and maintenance testing. 

(1)  Turns Ratio Test (TTR)

High Energy Electric, Inc. utilizes a three phase unit. This device gives precise read-outs of the ratio under test.  There is no guessing of turning the crank to obtain an 8 volt output.

(2)  Winding Resistance

This test is performed to verify the resistance of the three identical windings.   Its is helpful in finding defective taps, either load type or no-load type.

(3)  Insulation Resistance

This test is performed utilizing a D-C service and values are measured in ohms, hopefully megohms.  The same test set is used to perform a polarization index test.   This test is performed over a ten minute period and is used to help determine the quality of insulation.

Don't let this happen to you.   This is a transformer that malfunctioned due to lack of preventative maintenance.
